>> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 10th. let's start a a quick look at you are a weather with meet lease average. >> good morning. we are starting out with high clouds that are aiding in mild temperatures. it is 52 this morning. we are looking at clouds moving into the bay. a southerly wind bringing in the low clouds, the fog. that will be with us throughout the morning hours. inland are clear. 40s and 50s. not as cold as yesterday. by noontime 50s at the coast, upper 50s around the bay. low 50s inland with a mostly sunny sky. near normal temperatures today with numbers approaching

60 degrees at the shoreline and near 70 inland. quiet night ahead but we do have some changes for veteran's day and rain is still in the seven-day outlook. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. we begin with our developing news story out of southeast asia following typhoon haiyan. the death toll continues to climb and officials say it could top 10,000 in one city alone. hundreds of bodies have already been recovered. a mass burial is planned for today. here's abc news reporter chuck sievertson with the latest. >> from the air and on the ground scenes of utter devastation. >> like a tornado that pass the us. and the tornado lasted for four hours. >> the tropical cyclone cut a wide swath of destruction over the philippines. especially hard hit is the town of tacloban. its residence endured 150 miles

per hour winds and flattening villages and towns in it's path and leaving behind devastation on a massive scale. >> things were just crumbling. as first it was the ceilings that went off and then the roofs started flying in all directions. >> dramatic rescues saved many people. friends and neighbors floating people to higher ground against a tide of destruction. many did not survive. >> at least 10,000. >> we have so many dead people. >> the water supply is contaminated. so much food washed away by the storm. >> people are getting pretty desperate. >> it this town is suffering very badly. >> after sweeping through the philippines, tropical cyclone highian is taking threat aim at vietnam. >> it's a threat to vietnam, hong kong, and the rest of south

china. >> vietnam braced for the storms by evacuating hundreds of thousand of coastal residents and stacking sandbags against the expected fury. abc news, new york. >> take a look at new video we got in this morning of damage in the philippines. homes and buildings reduce today rubble, washed-out homes and scattered debris. some of the dramatic images of people in the area are facing this morning. this is a massive picture of the storm from the international space station. you can see just how big it is. the typhoon is now hitting vietnam this morning. authorities have evacuated more than-a million people in high-risk areas. and the situation there is having a ripple effect here in the bay area. abc7 news reporter sergio has more on local residents trying it connect with family in the philippines. >> as relief workers continue to assess the damage from typhoon

haiyan, this man is getting ready for his flight. he's had trouble contacting family in tacloban. tacloban -- taboo. he knows he will make it to there but some flights have been cancelled and he doesn't know how bad the city is hit. >> are you worried about what you will blind you get there? >> oh, yeah, i'm worried. >> lots of his fellow travelers were keeping tabs on headlines and for the areas that had been hit, any news is a relief, even if it's not good. >> yesterday i got a short message saying they are okay but the house is gone. >> she's a member of the st. patrick's catholic church in the mission. she's happy to hear her family is safe but the entire congregation is now waiting it to hear from their local pastor. he happened to be in the

would get and more on christie after his commanding win in the governor's race. he goes one-on-one with george stephanopoulos this morning on "this week." what issues will he tackle next in his second term? what does christie's strong win in a democratic state mean for his presidential prospects? which wing of the republican party will win over gop voters in 2016? you can catch "this week" right here on abc7 at 8:00. fire crews are investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire that gutted a san mateo home. this house on warren road was fully engulfed by the time the first firefighters arrived on the scene around 7:30 last night. it took about an hour and a half for them to put out the flames, which at one point shot through the roof of that home several feet in the air. one firefighters suffered an injury and was taken to the hospital. no one was inside that home. three people were burned

after a second-floor deck fire broke out in a three-story apartment in san francisco's mission district last night. the victims tried to put out the fire themselves and were hurt in the process. one person was taken to the st. francis memorial hospital burn unit with serious injuries. and the controlled burn is raising concerns in the south bay. yesterday lots of people called in about smoke from big basin state park. you can see the ploom of smoke from space in this image. the cal fire controlled burn will wrap up today. again, it is a controlled burn. meteorologist lisa argen here now with a preview of the accuweather forecast. >> we've seen an increase in the low clouds and fog. that will aid in our cooling today but not that much. we still have a pretty nice day on tap. a live look outside from our roof camera. temperatures kind of mild here in the low 50s. low clouds and fog all around the bay, reducing visibility. your holiday forecast is coming

that city. any of that much-needed rain on the way this week? well we will check in with lisa argen, our meteorologist, in just a few. new this morning, an animal sanctuary employee is dead after being attacked by a wildcat in oregon. it happened last night at wildcat may have anyone the city of sherwood. that's just southwest of portland. while the victim's identity has not been released authorities say it's a 35-year-old woman. no word yet on the type of cat that attacked her, but the sanctuary is home to 60 wildcats, including abandoned and abused tigers, bobcats lynks. yesterday a balloon exploded over wine country. the balloon was carrying six people. one was burned, two others were seriously injured.

a fourth person suffered minor injuries. no word yet on the cause of that explosion. the mtsb is investigating. the family of a missing brazilian man will hand out flyers in san francisco today trying to get the word out about his disappearance. the 22-year-old was last heard from on october 28th. people say he was visiting san francisco from l.a. and contacted relatives in brazil and a friend in los angeles indicating he was in trouble and being followed. his family will be handing out flyers at 1:00 in dolores park. >> there will be a search in santa rosa for a missing disabled veteran. press democrat reports 56-year-old david was reported missing on halloween. his girlfriend tells authorities he was having en emotional break down when he left his home on foot. the search is scheduled to begin at 9:00 at spring lake regional

park. another day of protests for 13-year-old andy low, the sonoma county boy shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy last month. yesterday protesters held a marin side this santa rosa park demanding justice for lopez in what was called a day of action. other protests were held in san francisco, oakland and los angeles. >> this time we just don't want to let it lie. things need to change. we want a different story because we dent want there to be any more andy lopezs. we don't want this to happen to anybody else. >> the deputy that shot lopez, shot him several times after the teen displayed an air soft rifle. last week lopez's family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against that deputy and against the county. this morning homicide investigators in texas are trying to determine if human bones discovered buried underneath a home in houston are those of a 4-year-old bay area that grew newspaper the bay area.

wendy marshall disappeared. she graduated from concord. authorities are waiting for test results to confirm the i. d.. san francisco police are investigating the detect of a person found floating in the water near mccuff viola cove. the body was found yesterday morning by one walk their dog near pier 48. victim has not been identified and police have not released a cause of death. parents, check your kitchens. locally-made baby foot is being recalled. plum organics of emeryville has issued a voluntary recall for millions of food products. they are baby stage 2, tots mishmash and kids lines. look for best buy dates ranging from august 5 to december 8 of 2014. the company said the pouches did not seal correctly so that means the packages might spoil. they are recommending that out of an abundance of caution, baby should not eat any of those

san francisco. another look from emeryville. low clouds and santa rosa at 40 degrees. napa, same thing. 47 livermore, 44 concord. finally our exploratorium camera, nice shot this morning. areas of fog so do be careful. we are talking about a cooler day with hazy sunshine. not much cooler, just on the order of a couple degrees. that's due basically to some of the clouds that will take a little built of while to clear. then the southerly winds. chance of rain comes our way on tuesday. here's a look at the visibility in miles. half-mile napa, quarter mile santa rosa, three quarters in san jose and a little bit of fog half moon bay. as we take you to the other side of the world, i want to keep you updated on what was typhoon haiyan. still remaining strong in the south china sea. we are looking for it to push into northern vietnam with winds over 100 miles an hour now but

it will continue to weaken to about 90 miles an hour. somewhere between a category 1 and category 2 is what the strength is. but as it moves to the north throughout the next couple hours, you notice it does continue to weaken. we will look at 40 miles an hour winds by later on this morning and then finally just a remnant low throughout the rest of the morning and afternoon hours. so that is some better news for those folks as that becomes history. of course, there's still lots of cleanup going on there. with high pressure in control here, we are still going to stay dry throughout the day today and into tomorrow. which most of you have off. then we will look for a piece of the energy to swing on by. here's the way it looks throughout the next several hours. today we will call itnpartly cloudy, especially in the north bay. san francisco. elsewhere more sunshine in the east and south bay. 4:00 in the more than we are looking dry tomorrow. here's tuesday morning. so the morning commute 6:00 notice we've got rain showers from point reyes down through

>> welcome back, everyone. we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> carolyn, good morning. with temperatures in the 40s and 50s, we are much warmer than we were yesterday at this time. anywhere from three to fourteen degrees warmer on the coast. a lot of that due to the low clouds, the fog, the southerly component to the wind. you see the visibility. san jose just three quarters of a mile and newspaper the north bay, half moon bay and santa rosa visibility is reduced. elsewhere not bad. partly cloudy and we will look for more sunshine today. partly cloudy skies in the north bay, though, and at the coast. we are looking at low to mid-60s again shoreline and around the bay mid-and upper 60s. so another mild day here. inland a couple 70s. we will look for another dry day for veteran's day but then

emeryville where temperatures are also in the 50s right around 50. north bay cooler and the visibility from santa rosa, napa, novato, about a half-mile. 43 fairfield. concord 44. good morning, livermore, 47 degrees. from our exploratorium camera, we have areas of dense fog. otherwise look for hazy sunshine today. temperatures coming down around 4 degrees or so and the chance of rain still with us late monday, into tuesday for the north bay and parts of the coastal hills and the east way. nine-mile visibility for oakland, not bad. here's where we have the problem from napa, novato, and even san jose. it will take time for that to clear. here's what we can expect hour by hour. you see the fog here and 9:00 we still have low clouds around the bay. by noontime it begins to break up and we are partly cloudy for the most part. but the clouds will hang along the shoreline, keeping it cool there.
